CotN Post Processing + Antialiasing

Here you will find some information about the two post processing softwares provided on this blog.

Children of the Nile Enb series

This tool is a great development coming form a russian guy named Boris Vorontsov. It became really famous with GTA4 as it gave that game nearly photorealistic graphics. By now, many presets have been made for various games so I thought why not doing one for CotN.
The software brings some great new effects like depth of field and several colour adaptions. The best of all is the Ambient Occlusion effect, making the game look really realistic. Unfortunately, the software increases loading time and consumes a lot of performance power, so it may not run on older systems. None the less, it's worth a try.

Featuring:
- Depth of Field
- Ambient Occlusion
- Bloom
- Reflection
- Color Adaption

FXAA Post Process Injection

Thanks to the guys from http://www.assembla.com/ , who provide their  FXAA Post Process Injection software for free, we can use new graphic effects in CotN. The good thing is that it's all very performance friendly.

Featuring:
- AntiAliasing (no more ugly edges)
- HDR
- Bloom
- Sharpening
- Coloring

I made a preset, which can be found in the download section. None the less, I am sure that you will have to change the look to fit your personal taste. As you can easily change settings ingame, this should not be a big problem.

You can change the settings while your in the game, so you will directly see the changes. Play around until the graphics suit to your preferences.

Thanks for all the people who made this great tool! All credits go to them!
If you have questions, just write a comment. I will try to help you.

  1. Hi, I tried to download the .zip file here and the link seems broken. Could you re-upload it? Or include it in extra in the HTOP archives? Thanks!

  4. I have the same problem, the GOG game crash right after the intro video with those tools and preset.
I've never used them, do you know if there's a simple trick to make them compatible?

    1. Hi, I use the GOG version myself but switched to using reshade currently, which provides an even better image. I will post some info about it, when I find the time. Meanwhile you can just download reshade and install it for CotN.exe and play around with the settings :)
In my opinion it's worth it

  6. My GOG version crashes immediately with this too.

I downloaded the ReShade program and it seems simple enough to install but I must admit, I have no idea what effects packages to download and what settings to use. I did a little guide for other people who might be interested in playing around with it.

    Go to https://reshade.me/
Download the ReShade setup file. Double click on it - you have to be online for it to work. It will search your PC for games but it didn't find Children of the Nile. Browse to the CotN.exe file and click next.
It should correctly select the Direct X 9 option, click next.
Skip the pre-set option (for now).
I selected the Standard and the SweetFX effect packages but who knows, select Next.
    Close setup.

    Run Children of the Nile
It should say Reshade has installed
Press Home for the tutorial and ESC to leave
Press Home at any time to access ReShade options again

This is where I get lost I'm afraid. I don't know what I'm doing and I'm not really the sort of person who likes to spend ages fiddling around with things like this. I'd rather just play the game!

To uninstall, run the ReShade setup file again, go through it again but now an option to uninstall will appear at the end, so select that.

I hope somebody finds this little setup guide useful, builds on what I attempted and comes up with a pre-set we can all use in the future!
