After being absent from CotN for quite a while, I started work on H.T.O.P 0.3, which will also be the last release / final version. Right now, most of the retexturing is done and I will try to get this game looking as good as possible.
Since the last time I actually played the game lots of time has passed, so I started a new campain and took some nice screenshots, which I want to share with you. The screenshots were taken with the ENB series activated. They present really well how far this project has come. Thanks for all who have encouraged me to keep on working.
This blog hosts various information on how to mod "Children of the Nile". It's the home of the H.orus T.exture O.verhaul P.roject, a retexturing project for "Children of the Nile",which aims at redoing all textures from scratch at a much higher qualitylevel and level of detail. Recently it also features the H.orus M.odel O.verhaul P.roject - an attempt to update the game's models.

H.T.O.P. Version 0.2 released
* H.T.O.P. Version 0.2 released *
After 4 month of hard work I am happy to be able to release
Horus Texture Overhaul Project 0.2
Many hours of image editing and picture search have passed since April and lead to this major release. It includes over 120 new textures for Children of the Nile.
You will experience a whole new look for nearly all of the buildings ingame.
By now, almost 90 percent of all buildings have been retextured.
In addition to that, the whole environment has been redone, offering high quality trees, animals and much more for you to discover.
Any kind of feedback is welcome!

Horus

Finally some news...
Hello all,
at first, I have to apologize for not posting over such a long time. I have been very busy and there has been very little time for working on the H.T.O.P. None the less, I have added some screenshots, showing my current work. I have redone the crops once again, making them even more realistic. I have also turned the flax fields into more realistic ones.
Moreover, I have something exciting for you today:
The Children of the Nile ENB-SERIES is ready for download. I have spent many hours configurating to find a good mixture of nice effects, performance and quality. Feel free to try and decide if you like the new look of your game.
All credits go to Boris Vorontsov.
You can find the download here :
http://www.file-upload.net/download-4494623/CotN_enb.zip.html
or under the download section.
Your game will get a totally new look with really nice effects. Be aware that the ENB will increase loading time and cosume a lot more performance power than the original game. If your machine is too slow, you should better skip this. In addition, I heard that in some rare cases you may get overheating problems concerning your graphic-card, but I never experienced those problems. I don't take any responsibility, of course.
To get the ENB to work, download the zip-file and extract the d3d9.dll and the enbseries.ini to your game directory. The mod is set to work. If you start your game, a text will show up in the left corner of the screen, so you can be sure that the mod is working.
To disable the ENB ingame, simply press shift+F12.
To disable ambient occlusion, press shift+F10. This should result in a performance boost, as AO is a very performance hungry, but truly magnificent effect
To uninstall the mod, delete the d3d9.dll
I wish you a lot of fun with the ENB-SERIES and I really hope that you still enjoy my project.
Regards,
Horus

"Children of the Nile" as you have never seen it before...
Hi there,
today I can show you some really astonishing screenshots! At first, I couldn't believe that this was the old CotN-game I was playing.
Maybe you know about the ENB-series, an amazing tool by Boris Vorontsov, turning many games into real graphic wonders. After some hours of configurating I got a version of this tool working for CotN, resulting in those nice pictures. It is yet very buggy and I will have to spent more time working on it, but maybe I can get a stable version and be able to provide it for download one day. By the way, you will also see the results of my newest retexturing work, having done the sphinx and other monuments. H.T.O.P. Version 0.2 makes good progress right now.
Enjoy the pictures and don't forget to check for updates!

Hi,
again time for some updates on the status of this project. By now, most of the environement has been changed, including plants, terrain textures, ressources and so on. I tried to take only high quality pictures as source for the new textures. Hopefully, the screenshot will give you an impression how the new environement will look like.
The animals have also been redone. The cattle is my favourite one.
Currently, I am working on the townhouses and still mess around with the temple.

FXAA Post Processing Injector - a must have!
EDIT: Updated preset available for download!
Hi,
the last few days I went deep into the Post Processing Injector I found on the net.
It's a really great tool, which ends up in amazing graphics for CotN.
Be sure to check it out and get your game that "up-to-date" look with smooth edges, HDR, Bloom etc.
Updates of the Texture Overhaul Project will come soon. I am working on the temple so far.
Regards,
Horus

UPDATE:
Be sure to check out the FXAA Post Process page!
Hello,
time for some updates. I will try to keep you informed about the progress of this project at least once a week.
Though I don't have much time, I will keep this thing running. I am sure you checked out the screenshots of the environmental changes. I already altered the grass texture and most of the palm-trees, the bulrushes, papyrus etc. In my opinion, it looks really good, hope you agree with that.
To give you a deeper view inside, I will try to release a first pack of textures during the next week, containing everything I have done so far.
Keep visiting here,
Regards
Horus

Welcome everybody!
My name is Horus and this is my CotN: H.T.O.P. blogg.
As I could not register at tilted mill forums, to get in contact with the last remaining CotN community, I started this blog, hoping that somehow people will find it via google etc. and can get in touch with my work. Please feel free to wander arround here and take a look at the H.T.O.P.
I will soon release a first few textures and upload some screenshots so you get an impression of what I am working on. CotN is definitely a wonderful game and worth to reinstall. Give it a second chance with H.T.O.P. installed and you will soon be caught by the magic of the best ancient egypt game ever! ;)

Horus
